Woodsball™ Manifesto

Woodsball™ Manifesto
By: Tyger

We are Woodsball™ players. We are the core of paintball. Over 90% of the players play paintball in the woods, and yet 90% of all in-paintball media coverage ignores us. We play not for prizes or money or fame, but for the passion of the game. We play because the challenge is there; every weekend, all around the world. We just need to show up and accept it.

We are not the pretty-boys of speedball. We are the anti-heroes of the mainstream. You won't see us on posters or in videos sliding into bunkers with names like "cans" or "snakes", and that's fine by us. The real game isn't spit shined, groomed and polished or made for TV. It's down and dirty, in the literal trenches. Our fields are not well maintained lawns; it's terrain that both teams overcome. We don't complain about sand or dirt or uneven fields, its part of the world we play in. Scratches and dings in our equipment are displayed with pride, and we can tell you where they happened, and how deep in the crud we were when we got it.

We are the roots of the game that have been abandoned by much of the mainstream industry. We don't throw aside where we've come from to make the game more palatable for an audience. If nobody sees what we do, it does not make the effort or result worth less. We drive through back roads to fields that nobody knows about but ourselves. We know we're there when we lose our favorite radio station and the cell phones won't work anymore. We play under the media radar with no reward other than bragging rights because we want to play. There are no prizes, no million dollar checks, but that makes neither our tenacity to win no less fierce nor our games less meaningful for us.

Our chosen uniform is camouflage, not because we want to be militaristic but because it works. We use our clothing as a part of our game, something that escapes many of the "firefight specialists" that play only arena games. The paintgun is only one tool of a well rounded player, not the only tool. We know this; as we use all the skills and tools we have every weekend.

Based only on our clothing, our gear, and our chosen locations of play, we are looked at as inferior players. We are told we would never stand a chance in a "real game" of paintball. We understand your arena game; yet you refuse to understand our woods game? We are not throwbacks to a long dead game. Yes, we are living history, but we have evolved. We honor our roots, but we do not abandon them to follow the next "promise" in paintball. Long after the "flavor of the month" arena game has worn out, we will be playing in the woods. To know the past is to control our future, and we embrace both.

We are told that we should abandon the woods, for the better good of "the future of the game". Our presence threatens those who never have, and probably never will, understand what the origins of paintball are. They think we will scare away the media by looking like "militia members". Not that fist fights and blatant cheating will attract any better media attention in their games. Not that terms like "Bounce Engineered" or "Ramping Technology" mean anything to the true roots of what paintball started as; what paintball should be. Are the arena players scared of us or ashamed because we remind them what they should be?

We are woodsball™ players. Any given weekend we'll be playing our game with a grasp on the past and an eye on our future. Players that don't understand will come and go, we know this. They can play under the bright lights in front of audiences and pretend to be rock stars all they want. We'll be in the woods years after you retire, playing the game of paintball the way it always had been played; with honor, with integrity, and with friends. All 90% of us.

Malaysian Political Oscars

The Malaysian Political Oscars!

WIDE ANGLE – Huzir Sulaiman
The Malaysian Political Oscars!

Our political situation is like something out of a movie – so here are the awards. The envelope, please…

The Wide Angle Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, headquartered for no particular reason in Skudai, presents this year’s Malaysian Political Oscars.
The most widely watched television event in Malaysia, the Political Oscar telecast reaches over 1 billion viewers, some of whom are dead, some of whom are 130 years old, and most of whom are registered at the same address.

How does it work? Members of the academy (all Malaysian taxi drivers who despite being allegedly the worst in the world at driving taxis are remarkably good at political analysis) vote on these awards, and the results are tabulated by the auditors of some large accounting firm who would rather do this sort of thing than real accounting work, which might explain the state of the economy.

Here are the nominees and winners.

Best Supporting Actor
It is a crowded field this year, with many stellar performances from both veterans and newcomers.
The nominees include private investigator P. Balasubramaniam in Missing; Pusrawi’s Dr. Mohd Osman in Rear Window; Zaid Ibrahim in Gone in Sixty Seconds; and Raja Petra Kamaruddin in An Inconvenient Truth.
But the Best Supporting Actor Oscar goes to Penang Umno leader Ahmad Ismail for his controversial performance in Pride and Prejudice.
Despite his recent success, which led to him being cast in Under Siege and Raging Bull, Ahmad has flatly refused roles in the films Anger Management and Atonement.

Best Supporting Actress
For her critically-acclaimed performance in Minority Report, this year’s Best Supporting Actress Oscar goes to Sinchew Daily reporter Tan Hoon Cheng.
Interestingly, immediately after that film completed principal photography, Tan was the unwitting star of Catch and Release, a film that may or may not have been directed by Syed Hamid Albar, depending on which version of the studio press kit you read.
Tan spent just 18 hours on location, before quitting, citing creative differences.

Best Cinematography
For his impactful camera work in the V.K. Lingam vehicle The Conversation, the Oscar for Cinematography goes to Gwo Loh Burne.
(Although The Conversation was shot some time ago, due to his refusal to be credited for many months, Gwo Loh Burne could not be given the award earlier. When he finally came forward, this legal thriller was re-released in some markets as The Burne Identity.)
The Conversation beat out Entrapment, starring Chua Soi Lek, which also features an anonymous cinematographer.

Best Foreign-Language Film
Agricultural Study Tour, a Taiwanese sleeper hit, was shot entirely by coincidence, supposedly with no director and no funding.
Nonetheless, a sequel, Exile on My Taiwanese Farm: Peeling my Taugeh might be filmed next year with some of the original cast.

Best Original Screenplay
Jumper, written by Anwar Ibrahim, wins this year’s award. Although the film suffers from a cast of unknowns, whose number seems to fluctuate from scene to scene (though always at least 31), the script is undeniably original and exciting. It also has the potential for numerous sequels, which will prove profitable for the actors.

Best Adapted Screenplay
Written by a team of in-house screenwriters from the Attorney-General’s Studios, The Accused, starring Anwar Ibrahim, is allegedly adapted from instructions given by political superiors. A remake of the 1998 flop, but with many of the same actors and production team.

Best Actress
Seputeh Member of Parliament Teresa Kok was competing against herself this year with sterling performances in a slew of releases: Election; Woman on Top; Supergirl; and, in cinemas until last Friday, the black comedy Enemy of the State.
She wins the Best Actress Oscar, however, for her most famous role, Miss Congeniality, which has earned her praise from audiences and critics alike.

Best Actor
The big stars of yesteryear dominated the Best Actor category this year.
Nominees include S. Samy Vellu in Gone With The Wind; Dr. Mahathir Mohamed in V for Vendetta; and both Najib Tun Razak and Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in the comedy Trading Places.
The winner, however, of the Malaysian Political Oscar for Best Actor is Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for his flawless, nuanced, masterful performance in Eyes Wide Shut.

Best Picture
The nominees for Best Picture in the Malaysian Political Oscars are all gripping epics.
They include the moving story of the many members of Parti Sosialis Malaysia, The Magnificent Seven; the Khairy Jamaluddin biopic Million Dollar Baby; the Hindraf saga, Out for Justice; and the tale of Gerakan in the Barisan Nasional, The End of the Affair.
The winner for Best Picture, however, is the story of the MCA’s struggle against the Internal Security Act, Look Who’s Talking Now.

Lifetime Achievement Award
For his astonishing film career spanning many decades, and including both commercial hits and small but critically-acclaimed art-house movies, Anwar Ibrahim wins the Lifetime Achievement Award.
His roles, in chronological order, include: Wild at Heart; The Young Guns; The Great Debaters; Sleeping With The Enemy; The Insider; The Sweet Smell of Success; Reversal of Fortune; Cast Away; The Accused; The Cell; Cry Freedom!; Into the Wild; Back to the Future; Mission: Impossible; The Perfect Storm; and, most recently, Eastern Promises.
Depending on the outcome of contract negotiations, Anwar’s next movies may include The King and I; Top Gun; and Great Expectations.
Alternatively, he may take roles in Crash; The Departed; and The Forgotten. That’s the thing about show business – you never know what the big stars will do next!

That’s all for this year’s edition of the Malaysian Political Oscars. See you on the red carpet next year!

WC's Convocation Tales

Hola Peeps,
Finally, The Convocation Post.

*I know this suppose to be due 1-2 weeks back but having some problem.

And now it's ready to be unveiled. * Wink *

5.00am

Have to wake up and go fetch the Mr. KarFei who just got back from his holiday. Pick him from PWTC and eventually I got lost. =="

Reach home at 6.30am after send all his friend back to home.

Rushing to get ready to go out as I need to be in college by 7am for robbing. (Man, it's killing me)

7.15am
Ready to go college but suddenly… *rings* Hello, we are already here. Where r u now?
*gosh*Dad was speeding at 180kmh 160kmh as per what MunFei told me. Start to be a bit messy as only two cars will be going over and it suppose to be KarFei and Dad will be driving but since they are here, I will be driving one car with my Grandparents going and my cousin.
7.30am
Reach college and ushered my grandparent to cafeteria as I'm already late for robbing. As per say, I'm one of the last soon-to-graduate- to reach for robbing room. I'm done with the help of a lecturer that I never seen him before but he is very helpful.
Looks nice but a bit girly la the colour. =="
8.15am
Family is here. Went down to entertain them and also disturb mummy. :D
Went back up for lining up for the Graduation March. Damn long wei the line and Yours Truly are a gentleman so I decided to be the last person under my school to receive the scroll.
9++ till 12pm *lost count of time*
The Graduation March take ages to complete and after walk in, can't sit as we need to wait for other school to march in.
National AnthemNegarakuku Negaraku was sung.

*Funny Note: I think most of the ppl didn't even sing and some are swaying left and right… haha... *

Few speeches and also a salute to parents led by KDU Principal and then finally the time have come after almost ONE year waiting…

*drum rolls * drum rolls * drum rolls * drum rolls*

Yours truly will be going on stage to receive the scroll. Oh well, I'm the last few person so it's ok. Got time to lepaking and cheering.

Good a good cheer from my fellow mates which makes me proud of them.

Since we are the first school to go, we have to wait for the balance school to finish only we are allowed to go out which mean at least 3 more schools to go and we are suppose to be the last people to leave the auditorium. =="

Okay. After all fellow graduates received their scroll, we were entertained by:

A collage of stupid nice flash video of KDU. (Frankly, I think if it was done by me, the result and the flash would be wayyyyyyyyyyyy better that that. Seriously… :S )

After that we were entertained by our very own KDU Choir. *clap*clap*

I never know we had a choir. They are a bunch of enthusiastic who loves music and performance. *good jobs*

They sang a song which I have forgotten the title but it is catchy and joyful. Although the big bunch of Mass Commers junkie doesn't like it, I'm glad as it creates the environment there. And as usual, my fellow graduates were screaming for encore and due to the fact that Yours Truly enjoy it and I have a superb, loud voice, I have decided to scream ENCORE and my voice apparently was the loudest. *haha* and they finally decided for one more round and this time round, everyone was standing and swaying all around and trust me, a lot of the parent's eyes are wide open yet their mouth is smiling. Same goes to all the academicians and dean.

No more Encore this time round as 50% of fellow Mass Commers are watching me… =="

After that, as usual, Negarakuku Negaraku was sung and followed by the March and then I can't go out yet. School of Art and Social Science are the first school to have their group picture and apparently the cameraman is way damn slow and the coordinator also very the slow in coordinating. Guess they ate too much. XD

Finally everything done and I have decided to fork out more than 400++ to have the family portrait since my parent and grandparent also here but I waited for more than 2hrs in the line and again, the official photographer should have more studio instead of one. GDDMIT!

Lucky it is a rare occasion so dad was able to slow down his temper. He doesn't wait for ppl and he don't like waiting.

After everything settled, we went home and as usual, Mom was complaining about the house. Well, for those who have been to my place, you all know how it looks like. Neat and tidy at certain place and vice versa on other place.

Got home around 4++pm. Was tired like dead pieces although I did not do anything. Perhaps it's the anticipation makes me tired.

I wan to say this for longgggggggggg…..

I FINALLY GRADUATED.
A date to remember.
